Accidents of everyday life: insurers are mobilizing
Falls, burns, poisoning. Every year in France, everyday accidents cause 11 million injuries and more than 20,000 deaths. People over 65 are particularly vulnerable.
To alert as many people as possible to these risks and the means of avoiding them, Assurance Prévention and its members, including InsuranceInfo2023, are organizing the Prev' Attitude Day this year in December.
This new edition will focus on the fall of seniors. Indeed, nearly one out of two seniors has already fallen at home and these domestic accidents are the cause of many deaths and disabilities. Each year, 450,000 seniors fall and 9,300 people aged 65 and over die as a result of a fall.
To raise awareness among French people and promote healthy aging at home, the Assurance Prevention Association unveils the results of its study “Seniors facing the risk of falling”.
- The key results of this study
Only 17% of seniors know that falls at home are the leading cause of accidental death.
And if 50% say they have already fallen at home, only 16% have adapted their accommodation to prevent this risk.
To find out more, consult the study “ seniors facing the risk of falling ”.
However, simple solutions can reduce the occurrence of these falls. A digital campaign informs seniors and their carers about this risk and provides advice on how to arrange their homes and adopt the right attitude to avoid it daily.
